Benjamin Hale White was born in 1889. At the time of his birth registration his name was Benjamin Hale but his father, also properly Benjamin Hale, took the surname White and both became Benjamin Hale White. His father Benjamin (1861-1950) was a collier and his mother was Sarah Ann (formerly Little) (1864-1940).
Ben was a collier and possibly joined the Monmouthshire Regiment (TF) in June 1912 (comparing close service numbers in the Silver War Badge roll).
He landed in France on 11 November 1914. In The Times on 21 June 1915 White 1449 B was included in a casualty list as wounded. He was entitled to the 1914 Star, British War Medal, and Victory Medal.
Private Benjamin Hale White died of wounds at Bethnal Green Military Hospital, London on 15 January 1916, aged 26 years, his death being registered in the Whitechapel Registration District as Benjamin H White. His remains were returned to Coleford for burial in the Town Cemetery on 20 January 1916. His grave is marked by a standard CWGC headstone.
