Dunn: Private Thomas (TR7/14081)

95th Battalion, Training Reserve

Thomas Dunn was born at Awre on 14 February 1899, son of Thomas Denner Dunn (1865-1939), a farm carpenter, and Elizabeth (formerly Brown) (1881-1948). The family lived at Rose Cottage, Awre. On leaving school Tom Dunn was employed as a farm worker.

Tom Dunn joined the Army at Bristol on 3 April 1917 and was assigned to 95th Training Reserve Battalion based at Chiseldon, Wiltshire. He died of meningitis at Tidworth Military Hospital on 22 April 1917 aged 18 years.

His remains were returned to Awre where his funeral took place at Awre (St Andrew) Church on 27 April. A standard CWGC headstone marks his grave.
