Corporal Arthur Reginald Green (235850)

Arthur Reginald Green was born early in 1888 in Cheltenham to Arthur Charles and Rowena Mary Anne Green, who lived at 1 Raymond Terrace, London Road, Cheltenham.

He was one of five children born to the couple. He was educated at Douglas School, Vittoria Walk and later trained as an Incorporated Accountant, working for T O Williams, Payne and Co of Birmingham and Cheltenham for a period of twelve years.

He enlisted in the Royal Gloucestershire Hussars in Gloucester in 1915 and was on the clerical staff working in Gloucester, York and later in London, where he contracted pneumonia and died at Hounslow Military Hospital on 13 October 1918, a few days after being admitted. He was 30 years of age.

He returned to Cheltenham for burial in the Borough Cemetery, where his grave is now marked by a standard CWGC headstone. He is commemorated on the Town War Memorial and also memorials in the Church of the Holy Apostles (London Road) and St Philip & St James Church (Grafton Road). His photo appeared in The Graphic of 19 October 1918.
