13th (Forest of Dean) Battalion, Gloucestershire Regiment

Hubert Hall was born in 1892, son of Alfred (who died in 1907) and Harriet Hall, of Upper Bilson, Cinderford. He was a collier, who attested for the Army in December 1914 but apparently did not go to France until after 1 January 1916, being entitled only to the British War Medal and Victory Medal.
Hubert was wounded during the actions to take the Schwaben Redoubt, near Thiepval, Somme in mid-October 1916. He died of wounds at St John’s Ambulance Hall, Rochdale, Lancashire, on 18 March 1917, aged 25 years.
His grave in Drybrook (Holy Trinity) Churchyard is marked by a private, family headstone.
