George Gilbert Trenfield (probably known as Gilbert) was born in April 1898, the son of George Henry and Agnes Mary Trenfield. They had one other son, William Henry (born 1902) and at time of the 1911 Census the family lived at 67 Hopewell Street, Gloucester.
George has a Medal Index Card but this does not indicate any overseas service. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission Register shows him to be with the 275th Area Employment Company, Labour Corps at time of death.
According to the Cheltenham Chronicle of 1 March 1919 Gilbert died of pneumonia at the Red Cross Hospital, Gloucester on 25 February 1919, aged 20. He has a low stone headstone over his grave in Gloucester Old Cemetery, located in the north-east part, near to the Roman Catholic section.
