Before the war he worked on Kayte Farm for Mr Frank Burroughs and enlisted in the 10th Battalion, Gloucestershire Regiment late in 1914. He went to France on 4 August 1915, had seen three years service in the Army when he was wounded in France and invalided to England, where he died in King George’s Hospital (location unknown) on 29 September 1918, age 22. He was buried in Cheltenham Borough Cemetery, where his grave is marked with a CWGC headstone.
His brother, 17634 Private Albert Richmond Cox, 8th Battalion of the Glosters, was killed in action in France on 23 July 1916, age 24, and has no known grave: he is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
